Good morning everyone and welcome to the Tottenham Transfer Talk Friday Morning Update, there was plenty of activity over the last couple of days.

If you haven't read yesterdays article, then here it is:
Spurs moving to a different level on and off the field

Don't forget there are links to more articles below this one and in the Popular Posts section in the righthand sidebar.

Ryan Sessegnon

Former Spurs player and youth coach Scott Parker, now the manager at Fulham, has decided to take 22-year-old (23 in October) midfielder Josh Onomah on loan.

Parker also wants Georges-Kevin N'Koudou, but they want him to have a trial with them first. We don't want that so discussions over N'Koudou continue.

That is the issue to be resolved around Sessegnon, the rest is all sorted now.

We do not do medicals until a deal is concluded so he has not had his medical yet despite some reports suggesting he has.

Strikers

We have made inquiries for several strikers. You have heard of a bid made for the Colo Colo striker from Chile, we have also enquired about an 18-year-old striker in Brazil who is an Under-20 international.

I was asked about 20-year-old (21 in November) former England Under-18 striker Kaziah Sterling who was on loan at Sunderland from 31 January to 31 May. He played 168 minutes for them across 8 games and scored 1 goal.

I suggested he would be going back out on loan and from what I understand Charlton in League One might be his destination.

Eric Dier

Eric Dier's injury has prevented us offloading him. As mentioned before he is available at the right price but that isn't going to be hit while he is still recovering from injury. Expect interest in him nearer the January transfer window and ahead of next summer.

While with us, it will be a big season for him to change Pochettino's plans. The old Eric Dier needs to return and then improve.

Serge Aurier

As you know Serge Aurier is available for the right price but we have had no interest in him. The window is open until 8 August so we have to keep an eye on the situation and be prepared. Obviously, if we sell him we will need a replacement.

As reported previously we did enquire about 27-year-old (28 next January) Matt Doherty of Wolves but they quoted us twice what we would be willing to pay.

Paulo Dybala

Juventus suggested Dybala to us, we did not make contact to ask about him. We indicated no but then his agent contacted us. Tottenham do not discuss transfers without knowing if the player has a genuine interest in coming to the club. We only want players who want to be here.

Dybala is apparently interested and we have discussed the potential of a deal with his agent, what fee might secure him, what Juventus would be looking for, what wages he would be looking for, all the usual stuff and that has led to us talking with Juventus.

Talks are not at any sort of serious stage.

Why have Juventus offered us the 25-year-old (26 in November)?

Juventus want to re-sign Paul Pogba and that means raising money, freeing up a squad place and freeing up wages. Selling Dybala does all three, but Sarri also likes Christian Eriksen and Danny Rose.

Eriksen has indicated that only Barcelona and Real Madrid interest him but now interest has arrived from Juventus, will that persuade him to move?

We can only wait and see how this develops as transfer business intensifies now we are running down the days to the end of the window.

We are looking for a striker and Dybala can play in several positions, a striker being one of them or a second striker, number 10, Van der Vaart type role.

Very early days but my view is Juventus are selling to buy Pogba, rather than to get Eriksen. I still don't see it happening if Christian Eriksen is going to sign a new contract.

Victor Wanyama

As you saw, Victor Wanyama stated he wanted to stay at Spurs but he also commented that you never know in football.

There have been several sides looking at him, West Ham United, Fulham, Galatasaray and now Fenerbache where talks have moved quickly.

Given he has had 2 years of injury he needs regular football to prove his fitness and I don't see him getting that at Spurs. Without game time the 28-year-old (29 next June) is going to have no value next summer.

His contract runs out in 2021.

Wanyama cost us £12.96m (€14.47m - $16.13m). Spread that over the 5 years of his contract and that is an annual cost to us of £2.59m (€2.89m - $3.22m) per year.

His wage is £65,000 (€72,583 - $80,896) per week, £3.38m (€3.77m - $4.21m) annually.

£2.59m + £3.38m means he roughly costs Spurs £5.97m (€6.67m - $7.43m) a year.

Therefore for any sale the minimum we would look for is £12m (€13.40m - $14.94m) and half of that next summer.

A loan deal we would expect the other side to pay his wages and we would want a loan fee as near to that £2.59m breakdown of his transfer fee as possible, thus making his const to Spurs this season minimal.

We will see if he does go to Turkey on loan, that is the favourite at the moment.

I guess I need to write a post of the annual cost of each of our players. A fair bit of work, but I'll get around to it if there is interest. Either leave a comment or notify me on Twitter or leave a comment on Facebook.

Transfer Statistics

I remember seeing statistics that showed that most deals are done within the last 2 weeks of a transfer window and that 37% of deals are done on the last day.

That just shows it isn't Daniel Levy doing late deals as some fans with agendas want to keep shouting, but industry-wide and largely because players want to see what offers they get throughout a window.

Something to keep in mind.
