Optimism Over Lamela This Season
Optimism Over Lamela This Season
Will Lamela step up this season? |
This piece was written yesterday so before the Bayern Munich game.
Real Madrid deservedly lost to the UEFA Champions League finalists 1-0 with a goal from Harry Kane and there were many positives to take from the game apart from the result.
Harry Kane latched onto a chance and took it with aplomb. He looks back to fitness ahead of a new season.
The interplay and passing between the boys was excellent at times, we are moving the ball really well to cut through them.
More of our passing was cutting rather than just safe.
Troy Parrott continues to look as though he belongs at this level and is a really exciting prospect with a big future ahead of him. He has shown Pochettino that we do not need a sign another striker. That would simply hinder his development I feel.
Anyway, it isn't Parrott I want to praise, it is the Show Pony himself, Erik Lamela.
He has only delivered us one good season and a good start to a season. He spent 3 years I'd say sorting out his mentality.
I am very optimistic for his season. he needs to have a good one to win a new contract and show that he should be a part of the clubs future otherwise he will be sold at the end of the season.
He is available now, but he wants to stay. With new players coming in and a desire to have an end product and not just look flashy or work hard, as he has always done defensively, we could see a player creating chances and scoring goals again.
The ability is there. It was only a pre-season friendly but his choice of pass was better, he created, he made cutting passes through and over their defence. He has to deliver or he'll be consigned to second-tier games.
From what I have seen of him he looks as if he could make a positive contribution, he looks mentally right. Only time will tell, but I'm hopeful.
Now I know plenty of you are anti-Lamela, but like me, I'd ask you to put that aside and approach this season with an open mind about him.
Look for the good and not the bad. We are going to need the squad and we are going to need him.
Competition for places can either send a player into his shell or bring him out of it and when Giovani Lo Celso arrives, there will be a second left-footed and talented Argentinian at the club.
He will provide competition for Eriksen, Alli, and Lamela. He might just be the catalyst for improved seasons from all three.
My fingers are crossed.
My fingers are crossed.

He's always shown heart and endeavour and he's never been shy of tracking back and making tackles. Who doesn't love a hard worker.
I think where he's let himself down in the past is often trying too hard; going for the defence-beating pass that's almost on - but just not. Potentially though, when playing freely without too much pressure of expectation, he can be a player that makes a real difference.
Moura's got there quicker, and without the injuries, but the injuries played a big role in his time here I feel.
Let's hope he can show his best this season. I believe he has a lot to offer.
COYS!!
