Transfer Talk including Lo Celso, Sessegnon signing, Eriksen off soon

THBN Transfer Talk - Roundup Post including Lo Celso, Sessegnon signing, Eriksen off soon

Christian-Eriksen-leaving-Spurs

I have quickly put down a transfer roundup this morning so it may be a bit jumbled as the thoughts came into my head, but this is what I know to be happening at Spurs at the moment.

In the Further Reading section below you find stories on Erik Lamela and Dele Alli, who may well be playing centrally behind a front two this season.

Also there is a look at new signing Tanguy Ndombélé  to replace the departed Mousa Dembélé.

Right, onto the roundup.

Christian Eriksen is leaving, obviously, he wants to join Real Madrid and the £80 million figure has been reported.

Daniel Levy has tried to get Gareth Bale, Marco Asensio, Isco and now Ceballos in the deal. As I reported previously, we originally asked for Isco or Asensio as part of any deal. Real Madrid countered with Ceballos, a player who had a superb European Under-21 Championships for Spain, the eventual winners.

Why Ceballos? Because we made inquiries for him last summer, Pochettino is a fan. Real Marid want an Eriksen deal sorted quickly.

It is beginning to look like Dani Ceballos will be the man to join, early days, much to negotiate, particularly no buy-back clause, but they are the indications are it seems an initial loan deal with a purchase option.

The Spaniard does not want to leave Real Madrid (few do) but he will not get the 40 games he stated after the European Under-21 final that he wanted. He would like to go on loan but return to Real Madrid, Daniel Levy does not want a loan that just improves a player for another club.

Dani Ceballos made 4 goal contributions in 432 minutes and recorded good statistics at the Under-21 European Championships.
  • Most Passes
  • Most Dribbles (18)
  • Most Fouls Won (18)
  • Most Chances Created (14)
  • Second-most Tackles
  • Second-most Shots
  • Third-most Long Balls

Gareth Bale was extensively explored, but the financial side between him and Real Madrid is complicated and that hasn't been resolved. We are not waiting as Poch wants players brought in early.

As you all know Maxi Gomes has agreed to join West Ham United, however, again as I explained in a previous article, he is waiting for a Champions League club to come in for him. He knows Tottenham are interested, he knows it would require Eriksen leaving and he was very interested in Spurs until Barcelona interest became known.

From what I understand though he is waiting on Barcelona, who are in negotiations with Celta Vigo, with Valencia being the other interested party. His preference is to stay in Spain and join Barcelona obviously. He is interested in Spurs but we are not prepared to wait around for him, we want buisness done early.

Someone posted on Twitter that Fernando Llorente only had a few days left to sign him and then people were saying goodbye while I pointed out we have until the end of the window to sign him.

The club have been talking to Llorente, they have offered him a one-year contract. He does have plenty of other offers and we await him making up his mind where he wants to play football. he could still be a Spurs player next season.

I have heard three other names that we are interested in, 29-year-old (30 in September) Venezuela international (78 caps, 24 goals, 3 assists) Salomón Rondón of WBA, 25-year-old (26 in August) Dominican Republic international (1 cap,1 goal in a friendly) Mariano of Real Madrid who was born in Spain and a young Italian striker.

Homegrown Issues

There are non-homegrown issues quite apart from the money an Eriksen sale would make as I explained in detail here:
Why Spurs Can't Sign Players

Remember as a Europa League side players used to agree to join us, but didn't sign while they waited and then went off to a Champions League club, the same happens in our favour now. It's one of the reasons why a club has to wait on a player.

Mauricio Pochettino wants to build a squad to win the Premier League. I am expecting us to be serious contenders next season.

That gap between Liverpool, Manchester City and Tottenham will close considerably, if not totally.

Mauricio Pochettino wants the players bought before we play our first major friendly and Daniel Levy is delivering on that. I shouldn't need to point out that we buy a player when we have agreed to sell a player in that position, such as Trippier or Alderweireld.

Ndombélé is a replacement for Dembélé, Lo Celso will be an addition to the squad and Ryan Sessegnon is homegrown.

Regular readers will know I have concentrated on the transfer stories of Tanguy Ndombélé and Giovani Lo Celso. You'll see why by the end of the window, one was announced this week, as per my article from 3 weeks ago.

Business in the 1st week of July

The Copa America has now finished for Giovani Lo Celso so that signing can go ahead now. The fee is agreed at £60.99 million + add-ons (€68m - $76.72m) but Real Betis are now trying to squeeze some more. The Sessegnon boys in, I expect Dani Ceballos and a backup striker.

If Alderweield leaves, it is pretty clear that Joachim Andersen has been our number one choice centre-back for a while. We have watched him extensively.

Kieran Trippier is leaving and Kyle Walker-Peters will be assessed in pre-season. That will determine whether we buy a right-back or not.
