Titbits and Transfer Talk: Edinburgh, Hitchen, Fernandes, Lo Celso, Zaniolo, Ake
We start a titbits roundup with the tragic news that former Tottenham full-back Justin Edinburgh (seen above with Gazza) has passed away after falling seriously ill.
He went into hospital on Monday, but passed away yesterday. Edinburgh travelled to Madrid to watch Tottenham play in the Champions League Final and was a great servant to the club in his playing days.
Edinburgh was a part of the FA Cup winning team of 1990/91 and the Football League Cup winners of 1998/99.
As manager of Leyton Orient, he had just brought them back into the Football League.
Steve Hitchen, the Tottenham Hotspur chief scout has turned down an approach from Marseille to remain at Spurs.
Diário Record report that Bruno Fernandes prefers to join Tottenham and has rejected the interest in Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United.
My view is that Giovani Lo Celso is our preferred target, perhaps followed by Bruno Fernandes. We have made inquiries and discussed the possibility of Nicolò Zaniolo but I have always had the impression he wants to stay in Italy and join Juventus.
Zaniolo has made noises that he wants to wear their jersey and La Stampa now report that Juventus met with Nicolò Zaniolo’s agent on Friday and that they are prepared to offer Roma £35.61 million (€40m) plus Mattia Perin or Juan Cuadrado.
That rather shows the figure our journalists have been throwing at the story to be way off the mark as usual.
The last news from Spain was that Giovani Lo Celso wants to join Tottenham despite a host of clubs chasing him and he set up Messi for a goal in their last international. He is a player I'm very keen on us signing.
Concussion substitutes are set to be introduced in 2021 after the Jan Vertonghen incident says UEFA chief Aleksander Ceferin. Concussion rules were brought in after the Hugo Lloris incident against Everton.
Nothing has been decided yet but he admits that UEFA will have discussions with FIFA to change the law.
The Sun are suggesting that Tottenham will bid £40 million for Bournemouth centre-back Nathan Ake. The 24-year-old (25 next February) Dutch international can also play as a left-back.
