Juve talking to Lyon over N'dombélé

Tanguy N'dombélé is our number one target in central midfield and Spurs had an initial bid turned down.

We have not just started negotiations as the Guardian claim, they started a while ago and our opening bid is to suggest to Lyon their valuation is too high. It's how every transfer operates, it's how every negotiation operates.

You tell each other your opening position and negotiate from there, hopefully agreeing somewhere in the middle. A club still has to be run as a business, not as if money grows on trees and doesn't matter, thus you don't simply pay what a club demands.

You'll note Real Madrid didn't just pay what we demanded for Christian Eriksen, neither did they for Eden Hazard. Eriksen though, as I reported regularly, was never a target for Zidane, he was the choice of Perez.

I believe our opening bid for N'dombélé was £40.08 million (€45m - $50.85m) plus £4.45 million (€5m - $5.65m) in add-ons which isn't a million miles away from Lyon desire to get between £53.41m (€60m - $67.80m) and £71.22m (€80m - $90.40m) for him.

Reports are that he wants to join Tottenham but he knows of interest from other clubs and Lyon are trying to put pressure on Spurs by talking with Juventus.

Juventus Director of Football, Fabio Paratici, has travelled to London to finalise a deal for Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri (after Pep Guardiola turned down a massive offer) and to Paris to talk to Leonardo (Director of Sport) at PSG to discuss Marquinos and is talking to Lyon about N'dombélé while he is there.

Again it is quite normal for clubs to talk to several clubs, it happens all the time with transfers, but that won't stop some Spurs fans getting their knickers in a twist.

Tottenham will know exactly where they stand with N'dombélé regardless of what is written in the press.

Juventus might not want to pay the asking price and have an offer of their own, they may come to a basic agreement about a fee which Spurs could then match. It may put pressure on Spurs, it may take pressure off Spurs.

Either way, it isn't going to make a world of difference unless they come up with a magnificent package for the player, which would be in advance of what everyone else has offered him, our offer apparently being the best.

Then again, we don't know his desire to work with Pochettino and be a part of the Spurs project. So much we don't know, but it won't stop people whinging and moaning like little babies.
