Essentials of Success: Attitude

Attitude has been described as the most important word in the world in any language.

Where does negativity get you?

Nowhere.

Where does continually complaining get you?

Nowhere.

So why do it?

Success is only achieved through a positive attitude, so why isn't everyone positive?

Overnight success takes years to achieve. You need a strategy to achieve success. Tottenham have one and are following it.

The fact that some fans don't like it or that it isn't a quick enough timescale for them is not important.

Spurs' project is about developing youth or buying players with the potential to improve them and increase in value.

Like it or not, players need to be worth more when you sell them than when you buy them.

Sir Alex Ferguson insisted that a club had to be a success off the field before it could be a success on the field, as off the field activities pay for the on-field activities.

Simple but true and today an owner can't just fund the buying of players or pay wages. Both PSG and Manchester City are under investigation because their owners have illegally funded their clubs through fake sponsorship deals. Both are facing the prospect of a European ban and being ordered to balance their books, which would mean new sponsorship deals or selling players.

ENIC and Daniel Levy are simply running the club as UEFA dictate clubs should be run.

Some of our fans still think players are robots, able to play every game and not in need of rest. That is utter nonsense in the modern game, even a workhorse like Harry Kane needs rest, you can see tiredness clearly affects his performance.

Anyway, back to achieving success.
Man, unlike pigs, horses, sheep or other animals, has been given the ability to change the surroundings to fit ourselves.

You have the ability to change your surroundings.

So why wouldn’t you?

Your surroundings will become a mirror of you.
So if you behave like an unsuccessful person, you will be unsuccessful.
If you follow the traits of successful people…
Then you’ll become successful.
It’s just a question of when.

Do the players see themselves lifting a trophy?

I'm not sure they do.

Under pressure, some players are making too many mistakes. That is mental and I again repeat the players need mental coaching as part of their training.

It is glaringly obvious, well to me it is.

This is where fans call for experience, Llorente is a World Cup winner, Lloris is a World Cup winner, if only it were that simple.

mental blocks cause anxiety and anxiety cause delayed decision making and mistakes. Our play is anxious at the moment, when we are hanging on that is. We can't seem to change that unless we have a half-time break.

There is no leader taking that role in the outfield, our keeper is in goal. The midfield could do with a Roy Keane type figure, a Terry Butcher, a Graham Roberts. Someone who can galvanise us in those situations.

The more we put ourselves in tough situations the more we will come through them and then we instinctively know how to deal with them. You have to control the anxiety in your head, remain focused, remain calm.

Tonight is going to be a real test of our nerves, but let us not remember that we played Champions League finalists Juventus last season and we should have beaten them. However, two minutes in both games lost us the tie we had won.
