With the release cause being activated when Spurs added a year to Toby Alderweireld's contract and his desire to leave last summer, Tottenham have been scouting central defenders.
The first choice remains Matthijs de Ligt, but half of Europe wants him including the likes of Barcelona and Juventus.
Three other options we have cast an eye over are:
Cristian Romero - Genoa
Jean-Clair Todibo - Toulouse
Joachim Andersen - Sampdoria
Marca suggests that Todibo has agreed a four year deal with Barcelona and will join them in the summer on a free transfer so, if true, that would rule him out.
The Italian media suggest Juventus are very keen on Romero and Andersen is wanted by a host of clubs in Italy and England.
In central midfield we have continued to keep an eye on 22-year-old (23 in December) Ivorian international (25 international caps) Franck Kessi who plays for AC Milan. He has a contract until 2022 and the Italian club turned down Wolves €40m offer last summer which was £36 million then.
His sale will hinge on AC Milan's finishing position in Serie A. They have financial difficulties and have been warned they will get a European ban unless they start to break even. Clubs can not just spend what they like or just increase their wage bill as they like under FFP rules.
If they do not qualify for the UCL and therefore receive the extra money it generates, then they will have to raise money through player sales.
If we could get him on sensible wages I'd sign Daniel Sturridge as back up to Kane. He is not ideal, he can be selfish, but he knows where the goal is. Yes, he has injury issues but Llorente hardly plays so Sturridge would surely be able to play more and offer more of a threat.
He is also English so helps our homegrown quota and association trained quota, which allows us another non-associated trained player in the UEFA Champions League squad, of which the first in line in Juan Foyth.

That said, we certainly need to bolster our home-grown count one way or another. The current situation isn't tenable going forward.
