Norwegian on Spurs radar

Spurs Looking At Young Norwegian Midfielder

At the beginning of December, we were linked with 20-year-old (21 in February) Norwegian international (he has 12 caps) central midfielder Sander Berge currently playing for Genk in the Belgian league.

He is tall, athletic, energetic, has a good first touch, a range of passing, the ability to glide past a man, yet all these talents are magnified against lesser opposition. There is no guarantee they can be reproduced at a higher level or in a different environment or system.

AC Milan and Roma have been watching the youngster, who is reportedly valued at £22.5 million (€25m) by Genk. The suggestion from the Italian media is a January move but loan back to Genk until the summer when we will have non-homegrown places available in the squad.

He is a player we have been watching for some time now.

We need to sell 2 non-homegrown within our squad in addition to Vincent Janssen and Georges-Kevin N'Koudou to add Juan Foyth and a new signing to the UEFA Champions League squad.

Candidates would include Fernando Llorente, Mousa Dembele and Michel Vorm with their contract situations, plus Victor Wanyama with his degenerating knee condition that has limited his appearances over the last two seasons.

We can't afford to carry a player like that in our squad. He was one I argued against signing and we have only seen one good season from him. With his age as well it is time to move on.

WBA are interested in signing Wanyama, but I can't see him being willing to drop down a division.
