The Challenge
The Challenge Facing Spurs Now
"To see how the players celebrated inside with the staff, I think it was the first time in four and a half years at the club that we feel something special and the connection was amazing. Now we need to be clever in the way we manage that energy that we've created tonight."
Football is a mental game and those words from Mauricio Pochettino speak volumes and indicate the opportunity the players have for the future.
Winning is a mental barrier we have fallen at time and time again. To play a game in the Camp Nou under such pressure where we had to come away from the game with something and going down to a soft goal after 7 minutes could have seen us crumble.
Mentally though, we were up to the task. We delivered a performance that respected Spanish football reporter Guillem Balague described as "without doubt one of the best performances by a foreign team in the Camp Nou for many many years."
The opportunity is to take this achievement into semi-finals and into a final to deliver a trophy. You draw on experience and this is one to draw upon during tough games and tough times.
That is what Pochettino is alluding to and the challenge before this group of players now.

But let me not focus on the failings of the referee. That would make the comment too long anyway. Spurs played with maturity and continued to pressurise the home side throughout most of the game. Apart from KWP's unfortunate blunder that led to their (well taken) goal we looked the more like scoring most of the time. They certainly weren't without their chances, and two at least of those were saved by the woodwork, but we put them under more pressure than they co…
