Transfer window change could create serious problems

TOTTENHAM TALK

Premier League clubs have voted to close the summer transfer window on the Thursday before the first game of the season at 5pm. The new rules will come into affect next summer. The transfer window will close a 5pm on Thursday 9 August 2018.

Should it open earlier if it closes earlier? How would that affect contracts which currently run 1 July to end of June, hence the window opening on 1 July.

It is a bit strange that it only applies to the purchase of players, players can still be sold after the purchase window has shut which could cause serious problems. Player could still be sold to other European clubs so, for instance, Barcelona could still try to buy Philippe Coutinho after the window has shut and Liverppol couldn't buy a replacement. He could go on strike effectively, he could ensure he isn't fit.

Players can now hold a club to ransom really, it gives them greater powers so this announcement isn't the ideal news some will think it is really.
