2 significant stories show Spurs are getting serious

TRANSFER TALK

Two stories tell me that we have a serious summer ahead and that a trophy is almost a demand next season, preferably a Premier League title.

One is our interest in bringing the trophy-laden Dani Alves to Spurs to replace wantaway Kyle Walker. he has played at clubs where winning is expected and that mentality is one we are looking to develop, first though we have to win a trophy so his mentality and experience could be very valuable.

The second is the story in Estadio Deportivo that suggests Joe Lewis has become involved in trying to sign ex-Barcelona and now Malaga forward Sandro Ramirez. The 21-year-old (22 in July) is agreeing to terms with all and sundry at the moment it seems, Sevilla, Everton and Atletico Madrid being just three.

The Spanish paper claim Tottenham owner Lewis was in Malaga last week to negotiate for the Under-21 international. If true that is surely rather significant and shows Tottenham are serious about the future.

There is the small matter of a Barcelona buyback clause, something we have never as yet been able to get around with any player. It could well be that which Joe Lewis was getting involved with, it is highly unlikely to have been basic transfer negotiations.

These two stories shout about a determination to take the next step and add the missing element, add that little bit extra. I'm not saying Ramirez is a superstar but he is a player we clearly want, having tried before for him.

Whether they happen or not, they are highly encouraging for the summer ahead and next season.
