Real Madrid scouting ex-Spurs academy player Yuri Berchiche

Yuri Berchiche Izeta is a Spanish footballer who plays for Real Sociedad as a left back. Previously the 27-year-old (28 next February) was at Tottenham Hotspur when he joined us on 8 June 2007 to learn in our academy.

He was named player of the tournament at the Eurofootb Tournament in Belgium while playing for our Under-18 side who won the tournament after defeating Anderlecht in the final 4-0.

We sent him on loan to Cheltenham Town on 26 March 2009, then in July of the same year on another loan to Real Vallodolid back in Spain.

We released him at the end of the 2010 season and he joined Real Union in the Spanish third tier. Two years later he joined Real Sociedad who loaned him to third tier side SD Eibar. In 2014 he began training with and became part of the first team squad and now he is being scouted by none other than Real Madrid.

He has come a long way and has had a journey that shows you should never give up.

Real Madrid are after Yuri (former player) and Aaron Caricol, from Real Sociedad & Espanyol respectively, to replace Coentrao.
