Another record TV deal

After the record-breaking 8-billion USA TV deal, showing the importance of the emerging North American market and why we must be at the forefront of it comes news of another record-breaking deal in another fast emerging market.

The Premier League have now sold TV right to China for £560-million in a three-year deal. From 2019/20 PPTV, an online video streaming service will have coverage of games.

Chinese investors have been buying up clubs in Europe, one of the latest being Inter Milan by the Suning Group, who PPTV are a part of. The importance of marketing ourselves in these markets can not be overstressed as a following produces commercial and sponsorship opportunities for the club, which in turn fund the football team.

Ledley King was in China in May to launch a grassroots training programme sponsored by AIA. It is estimated that we have 180 million Far East fans and we have 5 Official Supporters Clubs in China.

“Tottenham Hotspur has a great track record of supporting grassroots football development around the world and China has become a key focus for us in recent years. Our long-term commercial partnership with AIA has given us a great foothold in the Far East region to develop sporting initiatives and the chance to work with Chongding FC is the latest step…I am encouraged by how the game is continuing to develop and improve every time I visit.”
