Colombian signing is an attacking midfielder

TRANSFER TALK

I have possibly been alone in promoting the signing of young South American talent before they become household names and I'm delighted to see we have signed an attacking midfielder.

However, we haven't sourced him from South America, but from down the road, Championship side Brentford. We have signed 17-year-old (18 next February) Colombian youth international Juan Pablo Gonzalez Velasco, which means he'll be classed as home-grown in the same way Cesc Fabregas was for Arsenal and now Chelsea.

He has one Colombian Under-17 cap, had had a trial at Burnley and was being chased by Manchester United, Chelsea, Fulham, Leeds United and Southampton. Having signed on 1 August he has already made his Spurs debut, coming on as a substitute for the Tottenham Hotspur Under-18 side in our 5-1 victory over Aston Villa.
