Wimmer earn himself a new contract

Tottenham continue our policy of tying down players to longer contracts. While the media incorrectly try to tell us that we are offering this player or that player a new contract to ward off interest from this club or that club, Tottenham simply have a club policy they invoke.

Players are not usually signed on high wages, especially young players. They are signed into a wage structure with a progression path. If you produce the goods you move up to the next rung on the ladder. We have seen it time and time again.

Kevim Wimmer is the latest to have signed a new deal and Eric Dier is naturally being offered a wage increase for signing a new long-term contract. That has nothing to do with interest from Bayern Munich or anyone else and everything to do with having an exceptional season.

Kevin Wimmer will be starting the season at centre-back alongside Toby Alderweireld barring injuries, something that befell Jan Vertobghen at the 2016 European Championships this summer. He stepped up to the plate when he got his chance last season and showed he was a good back-up to Vertonghen and that will allow us to rotate with confidence.
