Are Spurs about to get some more good news?

Are Spurs about to get some more good news? Victor Wanyama is already in the bag, Vincent Janssen is nearly past the post and now comes news that Espanyol are closing in on the signing of Federico Fazio.

Argentinian Fazio was not quite a disaster, but patently not up to the task we wanted him for. He made mistakes and became rattled when his confidence then deserted him and further mistakes occurred. That was the end, Pochettino made his decision and the defender has hardly been seen since. Not every purchase works, the key is accepting a player can't achieve what you had hoped and letting them go, or more likely encourage them to the exit.

Benjamin Stambouli was one, Federico Fazio is another, but on the other side there have been plenty of successes, now that we are looking for the right type of player, hungry players who want to improve.

Barcelona based Espanyol are very keen on signing Fazio and have been in talks this week. The Spanish press are reporting that talks are at an advanced stage with Fazio and that Tottenham are keen to sell him, which may mean a sensible price.

Spanish paper Sport say Fazio has agreed to a four-year contract. They go on to say that Espanyol president Chen Yansheng was in London this week, accompanied by CEO Ramon Robert to discuss the deal. Fazio is a proven performer in LaLiga and is there number one defensive target. With Europa League trophies under his belt he will give them th presence they had at the back when Hector Moreno was playing for them, before he unfortunately broke his leg.

Fazio didn't cost a lot and Espanyol are not flushed with money but I can't see us being overly difficult over price. Let's just confirm, to put a few minds at rest, this would be a permanent transfer and not a loan with an option to buy. The word from local Spaniards is that they are just waiting official conformation, price doesn't sound like its an issue, a guide price will already have been discussed.

Fazio has to be moved on. He is anon-home grown player so that frees up another non-home grown place and it frees up the right sided centre-back berth for a new signing or youngster Cameron Carter-Vickers. We wait to see.
