Janssen - I want to join Tottenham

Having missed out it seems on Michy Batshuayi, for whom Chelsea look to be overpaying in the same way Liverpool have overpaid for Sadio Mane, attention turns to the preferred target of many of us, Vincent Janssen.

The Dutch centre-forward has made no secret that he wants to join Tottenham and has now openly expressed as much to put pressure on AZ Alkmaar to agree a sensible fee.

“I have expressed my choice to the club. Tottenham have released a high bid in my eyes. There has been an offer of almost €18m, but AZ will not even go to the table. I would like to be somewhere else as soon as possible to start pre-season training. This is frustrating.”

Bureau de Change - €18m = £14.89m - AUS$26.92m - US$20.06m

We are believed to have offered Janssen a five-year contract worth about £25-30,000 a week, which would rise after a successful season at the club. Spurs sign players into a wage structure and see them progress through it as they prove their worth..

AZ manager John van den Brom told Dutch outlet Voetbal Zone he hoped Janssen would stay so clearly the Dutch side are doing all they can to keep him, as you would expect.

“Whether he will remain here is the key question for the club and for Vincent himself. We have to wait and see. I do not get too panicked because I know how it works. Of course I hope he stays. He is a good striker who has not become top scorer for nothing. We’ll see.”

The difference in level of football though will surely see the deal go through. Janssen has made it plain he wants to leave and further his career at a bigger club in a stronger league, as you'd expect. he has about 12 left in his career before he retires so when the opportunity to jump a level comes you have to take it.

He looks a really good fit for Pochettino's system and being dual footed can score with either foot, which makes him rather dangerous and difficult to stop. The sooner we can tie up his signature and get him into pre-season training the better.
