Kane urges Spurs onward and upward

Belief, belief, belief, I have been drumming it into you, look forwards not backwards. It is the same mantra in the Spurs camp as Harry Kane demonstrates in the recent article in the Evening Standard.

I have impressed upon everyone that you aim for the premier league title and failure will be a UEFA Champions League spot. If you aim for fourth, failure is a UEFA Europa League place. There is no point setting a goal you don't believe in because you won't achieve it.

I was writing early last season that Emmanuel Adebayor and the rest of the Tottenham squad could learn a thing or two from Harry Kane, that his mental approach stood out. This was before he went on his scoring spree in the Premier League.

“We’re not really looking behind us. We’re looking forward. That’s what’s been different from other seasons, when we were maybe trying to hang on to fourth or hang on to fifth. Now we’re third and we’re trying to get as far up the league as we can. We’re not worried about the teams behind us."

If Spurs simply take one game at a time, concentrate fully and execute the game plans to pick up three points, then who is behind us or what they do is irrelevant. Looking backwards creates pressure through worry, looking forward creates motivation through hunger and desire.
