England goals F31 A0 - Can you guess the surprising potential opponent?

Our record in major tournaments (FIFA World Cup, UEFA European Championships) against our potential group opponents at the 2016 UEFA European Championships in France.

It turned out to be an interesting exercise with some surprising statistics thrown up to determine our ideal group. There will be a link at the end of the article so you can check the statistics for your own country against your potential opponents.

Pot 2
Italy: W1 D2 L5 F4 A8
Russia: W1 D0 L1 F4 A2 (England have never played Russia in the World Cup)
Switzerland: W7 D3 L1 F22 A10
Austria: W1 D2 L0 F5 A4 (England have never played Austria in the European Championships)
Croatia: W3 D0 L2 F15 A9
Ukraine: W2 D2 L1 F4 A3

Austria as a side we have never played in the European Championships would be a nice side to get drawn against, plus we have never lost to them.

Pot 3
Czech Republic: W3 D0 L1 F7 A2
SwedenW1 D5 L2 F8 A9
Poland: W10 D6 L1 F28 A10
Romania: W1 D3 L3 F6 A8
Slovakia: England have never played Slovakia in a major tournament
Hungary: W4 D0 L1 F10 A3

Having never played Slovakia again drawing them would be something different for England supporters, Romania and Sweden have proved to be difficult opponents in the past for us.

Pot 4
Turkey: W8 D2 L0 F31 A0
Republic of Ireland: W2 D5 L1 F12 A7
Iceland: W2 D0 L0 F12 A3
(England have never played Iceland in the European Championships)
Wales: W9 D1 L0 F24 A4
Albania: W4 D0 L0 F12 A1 (England have never played Albania in the European Championships)
Northern Ireland: W8 D1 L1 F23 A2

Finally Pot 4 and there are two teams we have never played in the European Championships, Albania and Iceland. The surprise is our record against Turkey, in 10 games we have yet to concede a goal.
