The Anderlecht performance may have a knock-on effect

Just like PSG, Manchester United, Barcelona and a host of teams around Europe we are watching 18-year-old Anderlecht midfielder Youri Tielemans. We will get another chance to see him close hand against us in the game at White Hart Lane next Thursday.

Thanks to poor finishing and a failure to have that killer instinct motivated teams have we need three points from that game so will have to play a strong side. That could have a knock-on effect for the Arsenal game that follows on the Sunday. It was rather important that we won that last game, now we have made life hard for ourselves.

You either approach a game when you are 1-0 up to do a job and see the victory out or you approach it to kill teams off. Successful sides can do both, but wherever possible they go for he jugular. The difference is in the mental approach to the game, we have to take our approach to the next level to take our performances to the next level. It is alright beating a weak side easily, but that needs to be done regularly rather than an isolated case.

We have beaten Manchester City easily after a few moments where the game could have been beyond us and now Bournemouth. The same needs to happen to Villa and then a victory against Anderlecht where we can pull players off to rest them.

Ther are no quick fixes to turn Tottenham into a successful side, it is a progression and we are progressing along the right lines. This week we can enjoy a happy week, we can go to work with a smile instead of a frown.

Back to the old Townsend - right angles and no goal threat, mentally poor
We have to marry strong defence with attack - a rather appropriate article given the defeat last night to Anderlecht
Is Eriksen causing problems at Spurs? - and why Dembele, Eriksen and Lamela, Eriksen can't play together
