Spurs scouting striker Jovic

Tottenham, Benfica and Ajax have been scouting 17-year-old (18 in December) Serbian striker Luka Jovic. He is just one of several young strikers we are watching, naturally we are not the only ones.

Italians Torino have also been scouting him and are reported to be going to make an offer in January and have already begun negotiations with his agent, Pinija Zahavi. He is another player who is part owned, Zahavi now owns 70% of his economic rights, having paid £1.03m for them. It is reported that the Serbian Under-19 international will cost at least £2.25m in January.

Finding players is an ongoing business as is finding the next generation of players to add to what we have. It isn't a case of we are watching a 17-year-old therefore we aren't watching a player who could challenge for a first team place now. I have reported on Rob Mackenzie's movements recently to demonstrate this, he took in 5 games in 4 days in 3 countries and this weekend he is taking in 6 games over Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Spurs fans have always had an issue with the club no finding players before they have become expensive stars, now we are. What is done now affects us in perhaps 3, 4 or 5 years time, as does what we do next season and the season after. Regardless of what talent we have at the club, and the aim has to be to turn us into one of the best development academies in the world, we have to continually look to find not just those who have the potential to be superstars, but those that have qualities that have been overlooked, or that we can extract through developing their mentality.

The next generation are just as important as the now generation, without them we don't have a future.
