PSG scout Alli, Carroll and Townsend must learn from him

Mauricio Pochettino was insistent Spurs do everything to sign Dele Alli after seeing him play for MK Dons against Manchester United in the League Cup last season. Alli played a starring role as MK Dons comprehensively thrashed the Premier League side.

The plan was to gradually introduce him, but he has shown so much in training and then produced it on the pitch that he has already played for England. You wouldn't dream of seeing a teamsheet without his name either playing or on the subs bench now. Players like Tom Carroll and Andros Townsend should take note, you want spots you have to produce a similar level of performance, otherwise goodbye.

Of course, if you produce performances the press will link you with everybody. Having said that everybody was watching Dele Alli anyway and they will have continued to watch him even though he has signed for us. We continue to watch players we are interested in even if they have just signed for a club or have signed a contract extension. You never know when things will change in football and when a player is going to become available.

The Sun are reporting that French sources say PSG are lining up an offer for him which will be rebuffed, Alli isn't for sale, he is a part of the future Pochettinio is building. They sent a scout to see him against Anderlecht, but then again so did many sides. All standard practice that means little.

He is an example to youngsters, if you are good enough you will play, it happened to Harry Kane, Ryan Mason and Eric Dier. It happens because they are driven to succeed, you have to question whether Townsend and Carroll are driven to succeed or just want to succeed, there is a huge difference. One is driven by motivation one is driven without it, guess which one goes further!

Mousa Dembele has had to realise what he produces isn't good enough, it's taken him a season under Pochettino to get the message, but now that he has he is improving, putting in more effective performances. There is more to come from him. He now knows though that if he doesn't perform consistently how he needs to for the team benefit he will ne out the side. The says of playing your own game for yourself and staying in your comfort zone have gone, we have a head coach who will not allow it.

Nobody is suggesting it is easy sitting on a bench waiting for a chance, getting a cameo here and a cameo there, mentally it is very tough. That is where you have to separate yourself from the rest, you have to be ready at all times, mentally switched on as you would be if you started the game, not watching it as a fan watches it.

The remainder of the season is going to be a big one for the pair, they are sinking down the pecking order and that means fewer and fewer chances. Vital then that they take any chance offered to them and not make excuses about not getting a eun of games. Performances determine whether you get a run of games, Alli and others have shown that.

Back to the old Townsend - right angles and no goal threat, mentally poor
We have to marry strong defence with attack - a rather appropriate article given the defeat last night to Anderlecht
Is Eriksen causing problems at Spurs? - and why Dembele, Eriksen and Lamela, Eriksen can't play together
