Pochettino mistake affecting Kane

Pochettino mistake affecting Kane

The Harry Kane problem continues unsurprisingly with one fan on Twitter describing his performance as the worst of the season.

While last year he could do no wrong, this season it is all going wrong. This isn't second season syndrome, this isn't because oppositions have worked him out, it's down to being tired. I wrote in June he would miss the start of the season because he would need a rest after the European Under-21 Championships in the summer and that has proven to be the case.

A tired mind, let along the body, affects decision making, Players make mistakes at the end of games through fatigue, it's slows down the decision-making and causes a slight lethargy. His own goal was a prime example of this, a standard clearance not totally focussed on. many will say it was unlucky, but it happen because he hasn't had the rest he needed.

The XI I wrote should play against Monaco didn't include Kane, Njie should have started up front, Kane shouldn't have even travelled. While Pochettino is doing good things at Spurs he has mismanaged Kane at the start of the season.

He should have realised Kane would need a rest and decided he would be behind everyone else in pre-season training, While players maintain their fitness he should have decided Kane would miss the first month and informed Daniel Levy and the transfer committee that he needed a striker in place ready and importantly fit enough to take over striker duties for the first month.

Pochettino has clearly been backed in the transfer market, he was allowed to ostracise Emmanuel Adebayor, Younes Kaboul, Aaron Lennon and Etienne Capoue, which he wouldn't have been allowed to do without consent. The press reported that Levy had agreed to it. If Pochettino had explained the Kane situation he would have got his wish, to me he clearly didn't and we are now paying the price.

This has given us a headache, Njie' wild shot that didn't even go out for a goal kick, but a throw in shows he has plenty of learning to do and the injury to Son is unfortunate. Unbeaten since the opening day, when we shouldn't have lost to Manchester United, we are carrying Kane.

Has Pochettino misread the situation? Has he put Kane's problem down to a lack of form? Playing him against Monaco would suggest he has, which if that is the case, then his solution is exacerbating the problem. It's not something he has generally had to deal with in his career to date and I think he has made a mistake.

there is so much surrounding Kane, everyone wants a piece of him, all the media want to talk to him, he isn't just a tired player, he is a tired player everyone, including England, want a piece of. That in itself adds to the fatigue, he isn't getting the mental rest, as well as physical he needs. We have actually made the situation worse by making him a vice-captain, so a mouthpiece for the club.

Giving Kane as much rest as we can is the only way we will alleviate the problem, putting more workload on him isn't the answer.
