Lloris, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, a strong unit

Ledley King in a true Tottenham legend, he was one of the best defenders of his generation, but alas was limited by a chronic knee injury or he would have been a regular at the heart of the Englan defence.

He had it all as a defender, pace, the ability to read a game and his timing of tackle was genuinely world class. He has taken his coaching badge and is a club ambassador. he stayed loyal to the club so when it comes to things Tottenham he is a man to listen to, when it comes to defending you take special note.

“The relationship the two centre-backs have has made it easy for them and the rest of the back four. It’s been a pretty settled squad and that’s why we’re reaping the rewards of the great relationship amongst them.
“He’s [Lloris] great at sweeping up behind them… what a great man to have behind when teams do get through. He’s one of the best keepers in Europe for me and I’d loved to have played with Hugo myself.”

Lloris talks to his centre-back pairing and they control the players around them, constantly calling and making positional adjustment. The two centre-backs should be tied together by an invisible piece of string, when one moves the other adjusts their position and covers.

The relationship between them is thus central to a solid defence and if they have played together for years then obviously they are going to know what the other one id going to do in each situation which aids anticipating play. Tottenham are benefitting from that relationship and have our only world class player behind them, Hugo Lloris.

He has made several saves this season that you could easily argue have won us points or saved us points, the save against Crystal palace for instance. Right now we need to be looking around for his replacement should he decide to leave at the end of the season, Michel Vorm isn't in the same league and is more a stay at home goalkeeper. For now we will enjoy Lloris and hope he can help take us to where we want to be.
