Crazy Vardy transfer talk

Crazy Vardy transfer talk

The press do like to write some garbage and it is oh so predictable, a player scored goals therefore every club must want to sign him. Jamie Vardy is the man of the moment and well done to him, but the press are getting a little carried away.

Tottenham have a transfer policy that we will sign players under the age of 28 unless they are special, Vardy does not fall into that category, nor is he under 28 so quite why the have linked us to him is a mystery. It is a good story and sells papers as I suppose does the absurd suggestion that Real Madrid are interested in him.

He has done well and I'm not knocking that, but he is no Karim Benzema, Gareth Bale or Cristiano Ronaldo. He showed for England that he is simply a hard working professional footballer, you have to be a little more than that for Real Madrid.

Vardy has an impressive scoring record this season, he has scored 10 goals in 10 appearances so he is newsworthy, everyone then talks about him, great for exposure for the Leicester City name, just what the club needs to generate commercial revenue. he played last season and scored just 5 Premier League goals in 34 games, in total 6 goals in 36 appearances in all competitions last season.

He suits the new system Claudio Ranieri has brought to Leicester City, but put him in an England shirt and he has looked ordinary. Some players excel in a system that suits them, but struggle in a system that doesn't because they can't adapt. Can Vardy adapt and if he can why wasn't he scoring goals last season, any striker worth his salt should score double-figure goals over a season.

I don't believe for one minute Real Madrid or Spurs have much of an interest, the Spanish giants do look out for back-up strikers who sit on a bench most of the season, but they don't buy man of the moment players.

Back to the old Townsend - right angles and no goal threat, mentally poor
We have to marry strong defence with attack - a rather appropriate article given the defeat last night to Anderlecht
Is Eriksen causing problems at Spurs? - and why Dembele, Eriksen and Lamela, Eriksen can't play together
