Triangles showed the evolving style today

Mauricio Pochettino had his hands tied a little with team selection today, but Dele Alli has shown already what can be bought for £5-million and Son made a start which showed he should fit well into our style of play.
Pochettino on Son Heung-min - "I'm happy with him today. He will just need time to develop his game".
New signing Clinton Njie is not yet match fit, but he will surely start on Thursday in the UEFA Europa League tie to give Harry Kane a break. Nabil Bentaleb is out for a month with an ankle problem, Eriksen isn't up to fitness after an injury, Dembele is injured and Rose is being eased back, but L believe he still has a tight hamstring so is being given time. Ben Davies has stepped up to the plate well though this season and is staking his claim far better than he did last season, when to be fair he did rather struggle.
Andros Townsend was encouraging getting his first game time after injury, he went passed his man on the outside twice as soon as he came on which he hardly appeared to do at all last season. Lamela threaded through a lovely ball for Mason to score and Mason himself took his clear-cut chance, the fourth time this season he has had one.
Pleasing that he scored, not so pleasing, Chadli has forgotten his scoring boots, blasting over once again when in a good position. While Sunderland hit the post and the bar we had our chances as well, but were poor in front of goal again. As I spoke earlier we simply have to start learning and training ourselves to be more clinical, we make games like this hard work as a result.
Eric Dier named Man of the Match, I ask again the difference between him in a few games and Victor Wanyama at an inflated fee, not much if any. Vertonghem had to rescue us when Alderewireld was taken out the game on the half way line by a diagonal pass, but possibly the most pleasing aspect were the triangles we were playing.
Time and time again we were playing them to take players out of the game and move ourselves up the field. Look at the Vine below by Webby Spurs of the goal and you will see it is all about triangles again.
It is the basis of football, it's quicker to move the ball than to run with it. It is a clear sign of the style expected and as this side grow they will become much better at it and much more effective. It is pass and move football that is simple on the eye, but deadly when played right.
We have seen teams come to White Hart Lane and tear us apart with it, Vasel particularly, Benfica were another, simple passing and movement football. The problem is it may look simple, but it takes intelligence to play it, you have to be thinking ahead, you have to know where your team are going to be running before they run there, that way you create problems rather than react to a situation at the same time as the defence.
The signs are clearly encouraging for the future looking from a coaching perspective given we have Alderweireld new to the system, Dier in a new role, Alli and Son new to the system, not to mention to the squad and players. That's quite a chunk learning from the one seasons experience, the players around them have in the system.
The Spurs XI today - Lloris, Walker, Alderweireld, Vertonghem, Davies, Dier, Mason, Chadli, Alli, Son, Kane
The Spurs subs today - Vorm, Rose, Trippier, Carroll, Lamela, Townsend, Winks
Pochettino on Son Heung-min - "I'm happy with him today. He will just need time to develop his game".
