Soldado off to Villarreal next week
2 min read
Roberto Soldado is as expected off to Villarreal and not Sevilla as others were suggesting. Villarreal is near his home and with a young son having a settle home to bring his child up becomes important.
When you consider his wage before he came to Tottenham you can appreciate he isn't a money mercenary so wages were to my mind never going to be a factor, a deal was always going to be done as that is where he wanted to play. The other options, Sevilla and Real Sociedad were too far away. Sevilla could offer UEFA Champions League football and pay decent wages but Soldado prefers a move nearer home.

NEWS: Soldier, just steps from Villarreal. Closed fringe player in London with his family and in Valencia. Official next week
Valencia is just along the Mediterranean coast from Villarreal so he is returning to an area he knows and a league he is proven in. It's a shame it didn't work out for him over here, it has nothing to do with ability but is down to his mental state. He has zero confidence when on the field now and in familiar surrounding I'm sure he'll find his scoring boots again.
It just shows that every purchase, no matter what the price, is a risk. For offloading players this has probably been one of, if not the best transfer window ever. It is a clear indication we are planning for the stadium when we will have a restricted budget. You would expect many of the players here now will be with us then and be better players by then.
