Close to signing or given up?

The daily rags take opposing views on a potential transfer story that has quietly rumbled on through this transfer window.

Tottenham have had a list of strikers we are interested in signing who could play in the team now but also younger strikers that need to be brought along for the next couple of years. From the latter group the two main names are Timo Werner and Breel Embolo.

Timo Werner is a 19-year-old striker at Stuttgart and Breel Embolo is an 18-year-old (19 in February) Swiss striker with Basel.

The Mirror would have us believe that we lead the chase for a player they suggest is valued at £10-million. They tell us that we had a scout at the opening game of the season in which he scored to hike his valuation, when in fact it will have no difference on it at all. He scored 10 goals last season so is valued at £1-million per goal, a tad over priced from a second tier league I would suggest.

The Daily Mail take an opposing view and suggest we will drop our interest in £14-million Breel Embolo. Make your mind up lads. The transfermarkt valuation is £5.60-million. His true valuation will be between that and £10-million.

The Daily Express have nothing to add, they seem to take their story from the Mirror, who incidentally may well have taken the article from the Sun.
