Sunderland want Dembélé

Plenty has been written about the unfulfilled talent that is Mousa Dembélé. Good enough to play for Real Madrid if he chose to apply himself, according to Les Ferdinand, Dembélé continued not to apply himself.

It's the difference between being world class and getting to the top of the tree and being talented but ultimately leaving everyone feeling there was so much more he could have done. Every sport is littered with the Mousa Dembélé's of this world.

The Open is on at the moment and the best player since Jack Nicklaus is Tiger Woods, neither achieved greatness without having the mental ability to apply themselves to being the best they could be. Lee Westwood is a talented golfer yet has never won a major, Colin Montgomerie bottled it when he had the chance. Going back Nick Faldo decided his game would not be good enough to win majors consistently so he totally changed his game and won majors.

Half the Spurs fans want to keep him, half would be happy to let him go. Sunderland have begun discussions with his representatives to see if they can convince him to join them. Does he have any ambition or is his only ambition to play football each week? Whether he signs with them or not will be an indication.

It was said of him after he joined us from Fulham that he always stopped training every time he felt a twinge and medical staff could find absolutely nothing wrong. He would complain of muscle problems all the time. Those stories have died over the last 2 years, but they do suggest a weak mentality. His recent comments that it is his responsibility he is not in the team more suggests there are elements of his attitude on the right lines, but the whole of his head needs to be not just a part of it.

Good enough to play for Real Madrid if he works at his game but talking with Sunderland, that speaks volumes about his problem.
