Spanish confirm Soldado prefers Villarreal move

Given the choice Roberto Soldado will join Villarreal claims a Spanish source which concurs with the article I wrote on Sunday.
They suggest that playing for Villarreal is near his home so offers the best lifestyle for him and that he like the style of play. It won't hurt that his agent is great friends with the Villarreal president Fernando Roig Negueroles. Both parties have had several meetings to work on a deal acceptable to all parties.
The deal will not be financially easy for Villarreal but Soldado was only on €1m (about £707,000) at valencia before joining Tottenham so he will take a wage drop to return home. He has offers from Premier League clubs but with a young son Spain is now where he wants to be.
At this stage Soldado himself doesn't know whether he is leaving Tottenham or not, it depends upon getting rid of Emmanuel Adebayor and being able to get in replacements. Once they have all been agreed and everyone knows they are happening then the sale of Soldado can be sanctioned, but until then he remains in limbo so hasn't travelled to America with the side. The last thing Spurs need right now is an injury to a player which could then scupper the other deals. It's simply a safety first approach rather than being left out to work on a transfer.
Villarreal are keen on loan agreements with options to buy, they seem to do quite a few of them, the Spanish media source suggests that that is the deal they will try and strike. Tottenham prefer a straight sale, with a year loan there is too much risk and he'd only have a year on his contract at the end of it so his sale value wouldn't increase even if he had a successful season. We prefer loan deal that have an obligation to buy at a set price, the same type of deal that saw Lewis Holtby leave White Hart Lane.
