Modric to give evidence today

Today in Croatia Luka Modric is a witness, a main witness, against the Dinamo Zagreb president and the club coach, Zdravko, and Zoran Mamic.

It is claimed in the Croatian press that they were arrested on Saturday for the misappropriation of millions of dollars. The charges are for fraud in the transfer of players totaling £11.34 million (US$17.67m - AUS$23.54m - €16m).

It is claimed the brothers misappropriated £4.96 million (US$7.66m - AUS$10.34m - €16m) from the Modric sale. The state Office of fight against corruption and organized crime (USKOK) suggest there was a secret clause when Modric joined Tottenham that Spurs would pay Modric half the money. The USKOK say that Modric was forced to pay this to Mamic.

Modric took out a sum and someone from the Mamic family deposited the same amount in another bank minutes later. The Dejan Lovren deal taking him to Lyon in 2010, he is now at Liverpool and the Mario Mandžukić transfer to Wolfsburg in 2010, he is now at Juventus.

The executive director of the Croatian Football Federation and former president of Dinamo, Damir Vrbanovic, and an employee of the Croatian tax authorities on suspicion of being involved in the case are also believed to be involved.
