Spurs offer £7.35m for striker
2 min read
Tottenham Hotspur fans are seeing youth at every turn. I have been reporting on some of the youngsters we have been watching both now and for the future.
Some are first team ready, some would be ready in a year, some need to spend 3 years to qualify as home-grown. We are active, Mauricio Pochettino wanted early signings and Tottenham are clearly putting in the ground work before the window opens on Wednesday July 1st.
A player can not be officially transferred before this date, unless they don't have a contract, European players contracts usually end on June 30th each year. Leagues such as the Russian league have different dates so contracts can end at the end of the yesar, as is the case with striker Luiz Adriano, who interests Arsenal and Liverpool.
Kevin Wimmer for those who are wondering had a contract that ended at the end of May, thus he could join on June 1st. Germany seems to be a hunting ground for us at the moment, German paper Bild are reporting that we have made an approach for 19-year-old striker (20 in March) Timo Werner from Stuttgart.
The German club have stated that their 3 goal striker is not for sale and our offer of £7.35 million (US$11.28m - AUS$14.62m - €10m) is not enough. We have been scouting him for a while and he is though to be a future star in the making. He hasn't had a productive season, his 3 goals have come at 1 every 549 minutes and he only had 1 assist in 32 games. Statistics don't tell the whole story though, he only turned 19 in March so has a lot of developing to do but a season of Bundesliga football will pay dividends next season you would expect.
For the German Under-19 team he has scored 9 goals in 11 games, for the Under-17 side 16 goals in 18 appearances, the Under-16 side 2 goals in 5 games and Under-15 side 3 goals in 4 games, a total of 30 goals in 38 games. Clearly he knows how to score.
Will we be back, quite possibly, we'll have to wait and see but the Germans do want Younès Kaboul so we would try and include Werner in any deal.
