Spurs interest in Rabiot is genuine

I can can't say that we have had a word with Adrien Rabiot recently, or at least his mother, and told him we would like him to come to the Premier League, because I don't know.
What I can say is that we have continued to scout him since January on a regular basis, we had a scout at the PSG game against Nantes on 3 May for instance, against Chelsea, we were at the Barcelona game as well. We also met him in March and invited he and his mother to London to view the training facilities, so our interest in signing him is very genuine and strong.
In scouting circles it is widely known that we still want to sign him. Arsenal are known admirers as are AC Milan, Roma, Valencia, Sevilla, but for Rabiot the key is playing, he wants to make the European Championship next summer in France so is looking for a minimum of 35 games to start his mother told a supporters club meeting recently.
Rabiot plays in the Ryan Mason role as do our other main central defensive midfield targets. Currently we have three players for each position there, Bentaleb, Capoue, Stambouli for the more defensive role and Mason, Dembélé, Paulinho for the box-to-box defensive midfielder. We are looking to sell Paulinho and Capoue.
Tom Carroll is being added to the squad, unless we have a change of heart, but is he suited to the defensive element of one of these roles, I have yet to be convinced and potentially see him further forward. There are defender who can step up to the defensive role, Dier has played there for Sporting, but it is more likely that Mousa Dembele may be deployed in a more defensive role, he doesn't offer enough creatively to play the number 10 role, nor does he shoot enough, as the recent statistics I produced demonstrated.
Bentaleb and Stambouli are the two main defensively at the moment, Dembele, Mason, Carroll, Rabiot or Schneiderlin or both may at times need one of them to curb their natural instinct to go forward. Pochettino may be adapting the system so instead of having one player with greater attacking licence than the other allow the pair to swap duties depending upon the play. It calls for a lot of awareness, intelligence and discipline but would add another element to our play.
England at the 2015 UEFA European Under-21 Championships are showing the same problem Spurs often experience, plenty of possession but nothing creative and too slow. It is a form of the game English players are still learning, there has to be creativity with possession and that requires movement off the ball, which requires intelligent footballers.
Last season we lacked creativity and Eriksen had to be overplayed, we need more from elsewhere and players like Rabiot who also have a goal threat may take some of the pressure of him.
