Kaboul to Stuttgart

Younès Kaboul was made Tottenham captain after it was reportedly offered to Jan Vertonghen in discussions over a new contract last summer but upon asking the players their opinion Kaboul was the name suggested.

It is easy to see why when you look at the appointments, Kaboul and Adebayor are senior figures, Spurs have a lot of youngsters coming through who do not need to be rocking the boat as it were. With Adebayor, Kaboul, Lennon as a triumvirate, I'm sure there were plenty who just went with the flow.

Since November though Kaboul has been kept away from the media and Adebayor, largely, away from the team. I am not telling you anything new when I say Younès Kaboul does not have a future at Spurs, that is pretty clear to everyone, including himself. We are hearing about lots of players we are scouting, negotiating with, making offers for but very little the other way, very little about outgoings.

The window may not have opened but that makes no difference, discussions for every club are in full flow. Like it or not most transfer business is done in the last 2 weeks of the window for every club, that's when players are cheapest, clubs must sell so they are more amenable to being flexible on price. It is not a Daniel Levy thing, it is not Levy trying to save money or be a skinflint, it's the way every club does business, financially it is common sense and finances do matter.

Younès Kaboul was interesting Beşiktaş last summer, but we couldn't agree a fee and Italian clubs. News now that VfB Stuttgart have him on their list of transfer targets. That is good news for Spurs because we want teenage striker Timo Werner, who we have had an offer of £7.35 million  (US$11.28m - AUS$14.62m - €10m) turned down.

Including Kaboul in any deal will certainly be explored by ourselves although the Bundesliga side don't want to sell Werner. We enquired in January and advised them Kaboul was available so a swap deal plus cash has been a possibility for months, that's not to say it will happen, but we'd like it to. The Germans would rather do a deal for Kaboul without Werner involved.
