Agent Jonathan Barnett & Spurs again, Dutch winger this time

Right then regular readers, Holland and scouting. As mentioned we scout a lot in Holland, it's a country that produces a lot of young players. Clubs have to produce and sell to survive and have had to for years thus their scouting networks and academies are excellent.

The country has produced some fantastic coaches with Louis van Gaal high up on that list at the moment, while Dick Advocaat steered Sunderland to safety in the Premier League.

Dutch clubs have in recent years upped the price of buying their youngsters, you used to be able to pick them up quite cheaply but they have aligned themselves more with the general market and demand higher fees now.

Dick Advocaat revealed that Manchester United were signing Memphis Depay in a £22 million (US$33.64m - AUS$44.01m - €30.14m), £130,00-a-week (US$198,797 - AUS$259,974 - €178,112) deal, a lot of money for a player who has only played in a second tier league. We pay Paulinho £60,000-a-week (US$91,752 - AUS$119,987 - €82,205) so you can see the wages problem we have compared with sides like Manchester United.

Before anyone gets enraged about that, there are traditionally five top leagues, England, Italy, Spain, France and Germany, then the second tier leagues such as the Dutch Eridivisie.

On 24 May Spurs once again sent a scout to see the Feyenoord vs Heerenveen game, which ended 2-2. We were there to watch 21-year-old (22 in March) winger Jean-Paul Boëtius (Feyenoord) and 23-year-old (24 in August) German striker Mark Uth (Heerenveen).

Jean-Paul Boëtius is a player we have watched for quite a while now. Dutch paper De Telegraaf reported a month ago that contract negotiations between Boëtius and Feyenoord had broken down. Feyenoord have apparently had talks with four different advisor's from his management company, one Spurs fans will know well, Jonathan Barnett of Gareth Bale fame, another being his son Joshua.

Barnett has always had good links with Spurs and the Barnett pair have been in discussions with the Dutch club for 7 months before Feyenoord gave up and finished negotiations. As a result Boëtius looks set to leave this summer. The transfer policy of Feyenoord is to sell any player a year in advance of it's end if they have refused to renew it by then. They at least get something for the time they have put in to develop the player, rather than lose them on a free transfer a year later.

It is thought he can be picked up for around £2 million (US$3.05m - AUS$4m - €2.74m) but his game will need developing before he is ready for the Premier League. He has talent, of that there is no doubt, but he has rather stalled and perhaps a change of scenery is what he needs to reinvigorate him. Sometimes you can get stale at a club and a new challenge gives you that spark to kick on again.

A move may be coming from Tottenham to bring him to White Hart Lane.
