Spurs receive £1.2 for Australian midfielder

Tottenham have just picked up a tidy £1.2 million (US$1.83m - AUS$2.39m - €1.67m) for doing nothing thanks to the progress made by an Australian midfielder.

Australian international midfielder Massimo Luongo joined Swindon Town from Tottenham Hotspur for £424,000 (US$647,002 - AUS$845,258 - €589,471) on September 1st 2013. Included in the deal was a 40% sell-on clause. The 22-year-old has now signed a 3-year contract with relegated QPR where he will be reunited with former coach Chris Ramsey.

Ramsey looked to be doing a good job at QPR, they began scoring goals but had too much to do to stay up. he has begun the rebuilding process by snapping up the Australian after Swindon lost in the League One Play-off final against Preston North End.

In the winter transfer window in January a Turkish club offered £1.8 million (US$2.75m - AUS$2.59m - €2.5m) which was turned down by Swindon who still harboured hopes the defensive midfielder could help them achieve promotion. Chris Ramsey was delighted to have been reunited with him.

“Mas is a player I know a lot about having played a part in his development at Spurs.
“He brings quality on the ball, the ability to link up play all across the pitch and his goals and assists record at club and international level speaks volumes for a creative midfielder.
“As with any young player, there are areas of his game that need improving, but knowing him as I do, I know he will embrace the learning curve of playing for us in the Championship.
“I'm confident he will flourish at Loftus Road.”

The fee for Luongo is undisclosed but is believed to be £3 million (US$4.58m - AUS$5.98m - €4.17m), which would net Tottenham a further £1.2 million.
