Levy backing Pochettino with new signings

Mauricio Pochettino would not have come out and made remarks that the first 7 weeks of pre-season training were the most important.

He spoke at the beginning of March and said Daniel Levy backed the decision, thus Spurs have sought a few paid friendlies, instead of a pre-season tour.

"it's never proper for the team to go at the beginning of the season to go to Asia or America.
"The first period of pre-season, the first seven weeks, is very important for our style and to set the basis of the team.
"The aim is to combine the business responsibilities of the club with the sporting needs of the team"

A club like Ajax go on end of season tours sp perhaps that is something we could look at in the future. Naturally the players are going to be tired and will need a rest but if a pre-season tour is not ideal, unless it is nor ideal just when we have a group of new players, then it's an option to consider.

Promoting the name, promoting the brand is important to increase exposure and attract commercial income, the lifeblood of any side that wants to be successful. Anyway that's a tangent to the real point I wanted to make that Daniel Levy and Spurs do appear to be backing Mauricio Pochettino with early signings if all the reports that are coming out are true.

The £4.25million signing of Cologne central defender Kevin Wimmer was reported by Steve Bates in the Sunday People. He claimed that the paperwork on the deal was completed and the 23-year-old Austria international will become a Spurs player on June 1st.

The Metro claim that reports in Ukraine say we have agreed to sign Yevhen Konoplyanka , however the Daily Mail say we have turned down the chance to sign the Ukranian international. There is a UEFA Europa League cup final coming up so you would expect news stories from one of the leading protagonists.

Reports in Italy are claiming that Tottenham have reached agreement on a deal to sign Ezequiel Lavezzi from PSG, the Argentinian international who has failed to justify his 30 million EUR, that's £21.4 million at today's exchange rate although at the time it was £25.47 million, from Italian Serie A side Napoli.

This story is certainly a more interesting one given the relationship Tottenham and PSG have. Tottenham wanted to sign Adrien Rabiot, who had a specific clause inserted in his new contract that he could go on loan in January. he had that inserted because he had an agreement in place to come to White Hart Lane. PSG accepted the clause but when the time came they didn't want to release him and delayed matters. Daniel Levy did not want to press the point because of the long term situation.

Ezequiel Lavezzi was already being linked with Spurs, it was clear he was going to leave at the end of the season, if not that window. he had fallen out with the club. This looks like a case of Tottenham having had discussions with the players representatives and PSG deciding they didn't want to rock the boat and miss out on signing him.

Italian outlet tuttomercatoweb are running an exclusve on the story claiming he is joining Spurs on a four-year deal. Reports in the French media suggest Tottenham could well be paying less than half the price PSG paid for him. The French struggle with Financial Fair Play rules so it is said they are keen to get him off their wage bill, especially as he and manager Laurent Blanc do not see eye to eye.

If Tottenham have been able to secure him for between the suggested amounts of 10 million EUR (£7.12 million) to 15 million EUR (£10.68 million) then we may well have got ourselves a quality player cheaply. He played wide for Argentina in the World Cup, I seem to remember a glaring miss, but he had pace and looked dangerous.

Are Spurs getting some early deals sorted for the first time in quite a few windows and shows Pochettino will have reached agreement with Daniel Levy before he spoke those words to the press in March. The summer transfer activity would have been agreed in January with Pochettino so he would have known what the future held, in the meantime Paul Mitchell has been quietly sourcing players with Rob MacKenzie overseeing their purchase.
