Injury plagued Destro an £11.8m bargain

Another day another striker it seems and the majority of them we have been linked with before so they make for easy stories.

When we watch a player and don't sign them we don't just suddenly stop watching them or watching their situation. For some signings the timing is just not right for whatever reason, and there are many reasons a transfer doesn't take place. No plater has to join a club trying to sign him, something some fans and media seem to foiget, nor do a club have to pay more than they themselves value the player at.

Mattia Destro seems to be linked with usw each summer, he is highly thought of, the experts say he has tremendous ability but he does have a previously reported troublesome streak. The Roma striker was being given media figures of £25 million a couple of years ago and £16 million I believe last summer, if memory serves, Now according to the Metro Arsenal are lining up an £11.8 million and Tottenham are once again interested.

In 2013 he joined Roma for £10.12 million from Genoa, whom he went straight back on loan to for £3.96 million. AC Milan paid £440,000 for his loan until the end of the season and in his last game he scored against Roma, in Europe you can play against your parent club. Last season for Roma he scored 13 Serie A goals in 20 games, just 1,226 minutes game time. I say just because that equates to 13.94.31 minutes.

The right footed  Italian international is 24, not 25 until next March so fits in the age range Tottenham are now seeking. Destro is currently on loan at Italian giants AC Milan, whom he joined on loan in January and has scored 8 goals in 30 games this season for both clubs. His game time has been 1,597 minutes, which equates to 17.74 full games, a goal every 200 minutes.

Despite difficulties, he has had injuries on and off for the last 2 seasons, he can clearly score goals, he also has 1 international goal after 6 caps. Naturally being in Italy the media want to claim Franco Baldini must be the man pushing this and other deals, but Totenham are a major international business who have a team of analysis.

Headed by Paul Mitchell they dissect every game and evaluate a player against pre-determined criteria. If the numbers stack up then we scout them further and continue to monitor statistically. Baldini is merely a go between, a negotiator, he doesn't determine who Tottenham buy, a small group make those decisions, then we get the player we can get on our terms. Mauricio Pochettino is a part of the team making the decisions and he says yes or no to the players put to him by Paul Mitchell, who is working within the transfer strategy determined by the Board as part of the clubs business strategy.

If we sign Destro it won't be because Baldini is signing a player against Pochettino or the clubs wishes, or that he has decided he is the right man. If I were to rate our chances I'd say slim, how many Italians leave Italy to come and play in the Premier League, not many.
