Tottenham monitoring Leeds youngster Cook
1 min read
Tottenham have been keeping close tabs on 17-year-old Leeds United youngster Lewis Cook together with Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool.
Cook is an England Under-18 midfielder that manager Neil Redfearn wants to keep the tough-tackling defensive midfielder at the Championship side. The Daily Star report that club president, Massimo Cellino, is prepared to offer Cook £4,000 a week to stay at Leeds and has placed a £10 million price tag on his head, which nobody will obviously take any notice of.
Players are simply not worth that sort of money at that age, look at Wilfred Zaha, bought by Manchester United for an initial £10 million from Crystal Palace, didn't make the grade at United, was shipped out on loan where he wasn't a success and is now back where he started on loan.
He is an example of why clubs look to buy youth from abroad and put these players through their academy system to qualify as home-grown players, it's a lot cheaper.
He was part of the England Under-17 team that won the UEFA European Under-17 Championship in May 2014 and was subsequently called up for the England Under-18 tie against Holland.
