Kaboul to Everton

Younes Kaboul, club captain. A club captain who is kept away from the press you notice, he no longer is the mouthpiece for the club, that task seems to ave fallen to Federico Fazio in the main, he seems to be commenting all the time. As I speculated in another article it looks to me as if he is being lined up to captain the side next season.

Kaboul to Everton

Kaboul hasn't been seen in the Premier League since Stoke City either with his only outing being in the UEFA Europa League on 11th December away to Besiktas. His absence explains why the Tottenham coaching staff are working hard with Eric Dier to ensure he is ready as back-up to Fazio and Vertonghen.

Aaron Lennon made the bench against Crystal Palace but has not even made the squad over the previous 5 games. He has played just 745 minutes this season in all competitions, the majority in the UEFA Europa League. In the Premier League he has played just 279  minutes, equivalent to 3 games and 9 minutes, from which he has managed 2 assists.

Both are no longer wanted by Tottenham so with Financial Fair Play rules kicking in Spurs, like other clubs, are looking more towards swap deals to move players about. before the story broke I wrote an article that Lennon would only be interested in a move to Everton, Liverpool, West Ham or Southampton, with everything else apart from City, United, Chelsea and Arsenal seen as a step down.

The story then broke that Everton were interested in Lennon, while Tottenham are interested in James McCarthy, who hasn't played for Everton since 28th December. Newspaper reporters have thrown £16 million ($24.2m - €20.48m) to £25 million ($37.81m - €32m) figures at us, with the lower figure being more accurate.

Initial enquiries have no doubt discussed that very point and the valuations on Lennon and Kaboul. We could end up seeing a swap deal plus cash involving 29-year-old Younes Kaboul and 27-year-old Aaron Lennon for 24-year-old James McCarthy. I wouldn't be surprised if 26-year-old Etienne Capoue wasn't discussed either.

Everton are in need of an experienced centre-back replacement for 37-year-old Sylvain Distin, his contract is up in the summer and there are rumours of a bust-up with manager Roberto Martinez. Distin hasn't played a league game since the 28th December either. At 29 Younes Kaboul still has years ahead of him.

Such a deal would see Spurs offload around £110,000 a week ($166,350 - €140,800) off the wage bill, although we'd be adding around £55,000 ($83,180 - €74,000) to it, swap one home grown player for another and free up a non-home grown spot in the Premier League squad.
