Ben Davies goes to school

Ben Davies has been back to school as part of the community work that he undertakes as a 'Next 20' Ambassador for Kick It Out.

Ben Davies goes to school

On Monday he went to the Nightingale Academy in Edmonton as part of an anti-discrimination workshop set up by Kick It Out where he answered questions on football, Financial Fair Play, equality, diversity, and inclusion.

A 'Next 20' ambassador is either a Premier League player, a Football League player or a Women’s Super League player who all give their time freely to help get messages across to the youth of today and inspire them as role models. Ben Davies is not the only link to Tottenham Hotspur though as Andros Townsend's Dad is also a part of Kick It Out, Troy Townsend is the Education and Development Manager for them and gave a talk before Davies took to the floor to answer questions.

Townsend put across a message about discrimination, how to recognise it and what they should do if they see it or witness it. The 100 strong crowd then asked quite a variety of question that Davies took in his stride. Financial Fair Play, growing up in Wales, friends, moving to London, one even cheekily asked how much he earned. After the event he talked about the importance of the work that he first started doing in Wales.

“The message of Kick It Out is really important. It is about getting discrimination out of our game and the opportunity to speak to young people is always important. They aren’t born with that feeling and if we can stop it at source that’s really all we can aim for.
“It’s vitally important that we as footballers do this and the more we can do the better – speaking to young people and stopping it before they learn about it.
“It needs to come from inside you and if it’s not speaking up to the other person then there’s nothing wrong with letting a person in power know it’s happening. It’s important that it stops.”
