Dembele will raise money for player purchases

As I have written before, Mousa Dembele is a frustrating player, he has talent but he doesn't want to maximise it, he is happy in his comfort zone just doing what he does, at which he can earn a decent living.

However he could so much better if he had a winning mentality, a mentality that drove him forward to improve his game. Former players and pundits have often stated he doesn't use the talent he has and that he should be a far better player than he is.

He doesn't shoot enough and was even quoted as saying he doesn't like to shoot, he prefers to dribble. Well dribbling slows our game down and Pochettino wants us to move the ball quicker, Dembele stands in the way of that. Clearly he has refused to change his game when he gets the chance, he still gets the ball, stands still, before pushing the ball past his opponent on the left hand side and going past them. An excellent skill, but it's the skill he wants to perform and not the skill Mauricio Pochettino wants him to perform.

He is another of the players who lazily rolls the ball to the wide man or overlapping full-back so he has to stand and wait for the ball to arrive. That slows down an attack, the ball should be zipped out wide with some pace in the way Mason plays it. Next time you see them watch the difference in the speed of pass, it's marked. Recently opposing players have started to simply intercept the ball before it gets to the wide player. He seems to be stuck in the mode of passing sideways slowly and passing the buck, how often does he actually create anything?

Pochettino made it clear to the players after the WBA game that Daniel Levy had given him his full backing to transform the club, to weed out the loafers, those who think they are better than they are, those not willing to fight for Tottenham. If that meant leaving them on the sidelines or selling them then so be it, but Pochettino was staying.

Several players have since demonstrated they don't want to, or can't play a high energy high pressing game, despite their youth. Dembele has now been earmarked as a player that can leave. His performances, especially at home, have been very poor and not what the playing style demands of a midfielder. While other players have lost form greatly, Chiriches, Soldado, Lamela, Dembele still does what Dembele does so may still command a decent transfer fee and thus help to fund purchases.

With stadium financing to prepare for player sales will have to pay for player recruitment so the sale of a player like Dembele who can still demand a fee in excess of what we bought him for will be of benefit. He is under contract until 2017 and transfermarkt value him at £14.96 million which probably means he can command a fee of £17 million plus.

He is 27 now so it's the right time to sell as his value will now only start to go down. The Belgian international will attract plenty of interest but with us needing to get rid of so many players, obtaining the right price may be a little difficult with buying clubs realising we have to sell.
