Davies will have to improve to oust Rose

Jan Vertonghen is frustrated at the game time he is getting at Tottenham under Mauricio Pochettino so he knows just how Ben Davies is feeling.
Davies will have to improve to oust Rose
It was reported in the foreign media that he had been told he would be made captain but that didn't happen and he has subsequently not signed the contract extension that has been offered to him. There were rumours of an argument with Pochettino at the WBA game, a game Spurs lost and that he didn't play in.
Younes Kaboul was given the captaincy which has meant him being selected over Vertonghen, yet Kaboul is consistently making mistakes. It has t be difficult sitting on the sidelines watching a game when you feel you could do a better job.
Ben Davies has had to settle for European games and Cup games, apart from 18 minutes of Premier League football. His situation is slightly different though as Danny Rose is the most improved player in the Tottenham squad.
Competition and the head coach's belief has improved Rose significantly and a direct comparison with Davies puts the Englishman rightly as first-choice. Welshman Davies is of curse frustrated but for him it's a case of improving, he hasn't shown enough in the midweek fixtures, indeed he was taken to the cleaners away to Partizan Belgrade.
Jan Vertonghen has no doubt though that Ben Davies has the talent, that he will improve and eventually take over as the first-choice left-back, despite him currently rating Rose as one of the best in the country.
“I played some games with him on a Thursday.
“Of course you want to play in the Premier League and he’s a very good player. He’s doing very well. But Danny Rose is one of the best left-backs in the Premier League at the moment.
“Ben is 21 and has the time to improve. He's a very good left-back and he can be number one left-back at Spurs one day. 100 per cent that day will come. He has the qualities."
If he does force his way into the first-team that can only be good news for Spurs because he will have to be producing a high quality performance consistently to achieve it.
