Eriksen has not improved at Spurs

Danish boss Morten Olsen has suggested that Christian Eriksen is not improving at Spurs and that his game is stagnating.

Eriksen has not improved at Spurs

The 65-year-old Danish boss has been in charge of Denmark since 2000 and had a spell at boss at Eriksen's former club, Ajax, in the late 90's. He won 102 caps for Denmark becoming the first player to reach the 100 mark. He captained his country to the 1984 European Championship, the 1986 World Cup and the 1988 European Championship.

Christian Eriksen has played 47 games for his country but his performances for the national side this season have been disappointing. His national boss Olsen has reluctantly had to challenge Eriksen through the Danish media. He has suggested that he needs to move his game to the next level, something Tottenham to a gamble he would do, when others wouldn't.

Olsen echoes the words of a winner, as he says it's a brutal world. Fans sometimes lose sight of that. Unlucky does not win trophies or gain points, unlucky is merely an excuse for failure.

"It is a brutal world, otherwise you have to play at another level. It is not Ajax any more, this is not development.
"After so many matches he could pick up the ball and help to control the game. He has not been able to. Therefore, we blame him. He must stand up to the criticism, and he does too.
"It is quite something when you have to criticize a player like Christian Eriksen. It should not take place. If it was a player at a lower level, one could say that he had no class. But with Christian Eriksen do not make the mistake. I must be tough and say to him. And he knows it well."

Danish outlet, BT, run with the same story but add a little extra revealing that Olsen has told Eriksen his performances are not up to standard. Sometimes a gentle approach works, sometimes you have to be a little harsher and give a kick up the backside.

"He is only 22 years old, I know. But he has been four years in the national team and had a fantastic season for Tottenham last year. So with the tools he has, he must stand the criticism. He has also been told by us.
"...He must fix the mistakes he makes. I remember his first two touches of the ball in the second half. It's something you can criticise a player like Christian Eriksen for. It should not take place. He must not make the mistake, it is sloppiness."

We often forget that Eriksen is only 22 and is the youngest ever international for Denmark. With youth can often come inconsistency and Eriksen needs to find a way to take his game up another notch. Tottenham fans have seen that inconsistency this season with some sublime ships, his important winner against Southampton interspersed with an anonymous performance against WBA.

Eriksen agreed when speaking to Danish newspaper Bold that there was room for improvement in both his own and the teams performance.

“It could have been better. There was very little space. We tried to find some opportunities and create a little, but there was not much room for it. It was a day where we just didn’t hit it.
“I got the ball and should have brought myself into the game even more. I am not getting the goals and assists and that is not what I want. You always hope that you can play your best but it was not like that today.”
