Angling for a new contract

The Sebastian Giovinco story sounds like classic case of angling for an improved contract offer.

Angling for a new contract

Juventus striker Sebastian Giovinco has started just one match for the Italian Champions this season and his contract expires at the end of the season. Ever keen to whip up a story the press have thrown a clutch of English clubs at the story, Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham, Liverpool.

He has been brought on for 1 minute against Malmo and 1 minute against Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League. In Serie A he has sat on the bench 5 times. Last season he played just 571 minutes in the league, which is just over 6 games, he didn't play a single complete game in the league all season. In the Champions League he played a total of 41 minutes so his season tally of 3 goals in 30 games doesn't give an accurate reflection.

The players representative Andrea D'Amico told Calcionews24.com in May that his client wanted to stay at Juventus.

"I am not surprised that Arsenal and Tottenham are being linked, considering the quality of Arsene Wenger's choices and the fine level of Tottenham's squad.
"However, they are not the only clubs. Olympiakos, Monaco and Liverpool? There are many other teams, as Giovinco is appreciated everywhere.
"Before anything we'll talk to Juventus and then we'll see."

His latest comments again indicate that he wants his client to stay at Juventus almost begging them to see his qualities.

“There are things to evaluate and at the end of the year I will consider whether or not to continue with Juve.
“The season has just started, we’ve only played eight games, so we’ll see as time goes on.
“I do not understand how Marotta and Juventus could decide to lose a fantastic player like Giovinco for free.”

It's typical of the sort of press story we get around contract time. I suspect Juventus will not play him until they can get themselves into a position of strength and then try and give him some game time to appease him.

Juventus of course have Tevez and bought Morata from Real Madrid who was in a similar situation to Giovinco, not getting game time, but again Real Madrid didn't want to let him go. It seems Tottenham are only linked by the press rather than one that any discussions had taken place with. There is no indication we are even watching him.
