What do Spurs fans want! We won.

You have to pull your hair out with Spurs fans at times, yes we are all different ages, yes we all see things differently and have our own opinions, which is healthy, but sometimes a little bit of common sense does seem to go out the window.

What do Spurs fans want!

We didn't look impressive, it's going to be a long season, we didn't see much evidence of the pressing etc etc. What exactly do these people want?

Firstly it's the opening day of the season, nobody looked 'impressive' it was simply about getting a result for everyone and we achieved that. But we didn't score until the 93rd minute, so what, we scored didn't we, we didn't we, we could have just passed it around for a draw, we did an Arsenal and nicked it at the end, how many times did they do that last season?

The massive massive factor that seems to have been overlooked is we had a man sent off after 29 minutes. We were playing a London derby against a team who had beaten us 3 times last season away from home. In that situation it is backs to the wall, keep the score at 0-0 and hope to nick it, that's the best you can expect, well that's what we delivered.

Were we supposed to pass them off the park with 1 less man? Was Erik Lamela supposed to jink round 6 players and tuck the ball away, was Lennon supposed to go tearing down the wing? We are a team who play with 2 defensive midfielders now, we had to play the game with 1.

The high press. We had 10 men, you can't play a high press with a man down, if it doesn't work half your side is out he game, there will always be a spare man for them to pass to. The high press had to be abandoned in favour of the two line defensive approach, the back line and the midfield line. Creativity and attacking have to go out the window to a large extent and the lone striker is simply isolated.

Anything else is a bonus, we battled as we had to and the side deserve credit for gaining the win, as to basing how we are going to do this season on a game with a man down, that's in my view ludicrous.

    1. Yeah....because with half the budget of every team above us, with a history of midtable finishes and two minor trophies in 30 years we ought to be winning the League, the FA Cup, the Champions League and probably the Derby too. If it wasnt for Levy.

  2. Good article. You also didnt mention our missing players....Walker and Vertonghen for certain; Dembele and Paulinho probably. With Davies still to settle, Rose also started but that wont happen often. So we were lacking experience. Despite that (or maybe because of it) we didnt fold like we did last year when down to 10 men. Wet Spam are a dangerous side when on a roll and we stopped them getting that momentum. Then we injected extra pace and energy in the last 20 minutes and there was only one winner when we got to 10 vs 10. Not a great performance but how can we expect that in present circumstances?

  3. Bravo Sir for attempting to be positive about Spurs, you don't see it much from so called Spurs fans.

Because it's the cool thing, to be accepted as a true Spurs fan is to be negative all the time. One fan commented on another site that your not a true spurs fan if you don't hate Levy. Another site over analysed the game on Saturday, well written but so negative and Spurs fans applauded him for a well written piece but applauded it because it was against Spurs and how they love the site. People can't handle supporting a team in the modern era. You get mocked and laughed at on the internet and people think by only being in the Champions League and title contenders will ease the mocking but it doesn't look at last years top 4 (and 7th place) and you'll see they still get laughed and mocked. I gladly do it myself.

Yep some people have made the wrong choice, listening to that music on a Tues and Wed night makes you want it but to some it's the only thing to have. Sadly you can't change teams or your treated worse than being an Islington Gypsy fan.

Since I've been a fan from the late 80s I've had after 87 one 3rd place (another one?), one FA cup and two league cups. For ten to twelve years of the premier league we're averaged 10th/11th with a best position of 7th. Now under levy we battle for 4th place with many 5th places and not playing well last season 6th. Could you imagine then not playing well and finishing 6th. We've always hired bad managers and shock horror bad players throughout our history. Can't understand why it's only recent years people think we have started doing this.

I will always be a Spurs fan, will always love them I have never and never will regret supporting them. I'm glad the ride on the Spurs rollercoaster is bumpy trying to get 4th place rather than mid-table or relegation battles. I'd wish those fans will just go and be the plastic fans they are and go and support those top 4 teams and let the rest of us support the greatest team in the world
