Vorm debut Thurs 18th Sept or League Cup tie

Dutchman, Michel Vorm, saved 61% of the shots on target in his final season at Swansea. That figure was the worst in the English Premier League (EPL) for players who made at least 15 appearances.

Vorm debut Thurs 18th Sept or League Cup tie

In his first season there, when everyone took notice of him his performances were markedly better, 73.1% in 2011/12 when he played 3,330 minutes of English Premier League (EPL) football. The following season his game time had reduced to 2,309 minutes and last season was up to 2,340 minutes.

With Fabianski arriving he was likely to be the number two and therefore when the offer came decided to join Spurs in the same role. A major factor will have been that Spurs played 54 matches last season so he'll get opportunity, he'll get game time. He wanted to test himself at a club where the expectations are to win every game either in the English Premier League (EPL) or in Europe or the domestic cups.

He spoke to Dutch media outlet Voetbal International when he made the move.

“In recent years Swansea City has undergone a tremendous development, but Spurs is a world-renowned club. The history, stadium, the city of London, the players; it’s all just a little bit bigger.
“Lloris has just renewed his contract for five seasons. In the world of football that doesn’t say that much though. I expect to compete for the number one spot with Lloris, a renowned goalkeeper. It is new situation for me, being not sure of a starting berth.
"At Tottenham, it is very different from when I came to Swansea in 2011 but the experience of the daily work at a top club, I just want to experience it. This was an option to which I could not say no. I am now 30. It is an exaggeration to say that it is now or never. But you do not know if you later again get the chance to go to such a big club like Spurs.
“Nobody knows what the future will bring, including how the goalie fight will pan out but I am going all in to make most of it. I spoke with many people about Tottenham, among others Rafael Van der Vaart, who has played here. He only said positive things about club.
“Talks with staff and board during my first visit to Tottenham Hotspur gave me good feeling right away. Tough competition awaits. I know that the club, the Chairman and the Manager all wanted me to come here.”

Having been at the World Cup with Holland, as Dutch number three, he has then had a holiday and is now working his way back to fitness. He has not been named in the squad for the two UEFA Europa League qualifying round ties so is clearly not ready yet.

Brad Friedel was the number two against West Ham and will presumably for the QPR game as well but in the long term, how Tottenham fare could determine whether Hugo Lloris stays at the club. He is happy at Spurs, he likes the club but he does want to play Champions League football, should that not happen and he moves on then Spurs have a replacement ready.

There is an international break at the beginning of September after we play Liverpool on 31st August so he will want to be fit for that. Our first game after that is 13th September so if we don't see him as number two for the Liverpool game you would expect him to be for that game against Sunderland away.

The draw for the group stages of the UEFA Europa League take place on 29th August with the first Group game on 18th September. The following week there is a League Cup tie to be played so I'd expect to see him start the UEFA Europa League tie and the League Cup tie. Mauricio Pochettino will no doubt want to give him some game time as soon as possible and will want him to play a game at White Hart Lane as soon as possible.

A defence has to get used to a goalkeeper and a goalkeeper has to get used to the defenders, that can only happen under the pressure of a game and in a game atmosphere. That is likely to be on the 18th September or the week commencing 22nd September in the League Cup.
