Performance Report
A second half substitute for Nabil Bentaleb after 60 minutes gave him half an hour in an easy game that was already won. The game will have helped him play the system in game conditions and what was pleasing to see was that he was passing the ball instead of running with it.There were several instances in the game where we won the ball in midfield and broke at pace with several players hurtling forward together. A Dembele running with the ball would negate that and slow the game down. That's fine when we are passing around and probing but when we need to play at speed passes are the fastest way to do it.
His stats tell you he only took one player on in 30 minutes, he beat him but that figure shows that passing was more important. It's an important part of his game to have to change and the initial signs are positive. Pairing him with Paulinho on Thursday will give them both some more matches to get fit, Paulinho was behind the other World Cup lads in terms of fitness on Thursday.
AEL will give it their all so it will be a better game for him that the acres of space QPR gave our midfielders.
