Holtby to QPR or Palace unlikely

The newspapers today would have us believe that Crystal Palace, who don't have a manager and QPR are lining up a move for Lewis Holtby. I would say that has about zero chance of coming off.

Holtby to QPR or Palace unlikely

He has been lively, energetic in pre season and has turned in some good displays, he is the understudy for Erik Lamela and can also cover the defensive link man role, indeed can do a job anywhere is midfield.

The 23-year-old German is, at the moment, possibly the first name to replace our existing first choice midfield, admittedly with a few players to return. He is knocking on the door for selection, looks very happy, seems to like Pochettino's tactics and Pochettino likes him according to the rumours coming out of the club, despite the players suggesting we are willing to listen to offers and he is surplus to requirements.

With all due respect to both clubs, they are a step down, Crystal Palace and likely to be fighting relegation and QPR are likely to be bottom half as well, does Holtby really want a relegation scrap when he could be playing in Europe?

If he wants to be playing for his country then he needs to be playing at the highest level possible and preferable also in Europe, where you get exposed to a different style of football and different players with different problems. When Fulham took him on loan for a failed relegation fight in January for the remainder of last season, their fellow German manager Felix Magath said he lacked fight, hardly the sort of player you want in a relegation scrap.

There would seem little benefit him going to either club quite frankly.
