Former scout gives his verdict on Fazio

Former Tottenham centre forward Terry Gibson, a diminutive figure with pace knows a thing or two about centre-backs.

Former scout gives his verdict on Fazio

After coming through our youth ranks the 5 ft 4 in (1.63 m) striker made his debut at 17 and went on to play against enough central defenders for Tottenham, Manchester United, Wimbledon, Coventry, Barnet and Northern Ireland.

The 51-year-old then went on to gain his coaching badges and is now a Spanish football co-commentator for Sky Sports. He has also been a Scout for Bolton Wanderers and Manchester City based in Southern Spain while also coaching Northern Ireland.

All in all he is experienced in many aspects of the world of football including judging players so. what is his opinion on the signing of Federicio Fazio by one of his former clubs. He was asked and gave his verdict on Twitter.

"Delighted with the Fazio signing for Spurs, fantastic signing at that price. Big loss for Sevilla.
"My brief on Fazio. Big, strong, aggressive & became the defensive leader at Sevilla. Decent on the ball, started at Sevilla as central midfield.
"At 6ft 4 he is not grease lightning but his positional play has matured at Sevilla over the last couple of seasons. Played with the [right] partner he will be an asset. Spurs fans will love his attitude. Compared to what other centre halves have cost this summer, he is a steal."

Gary Lineker of course played in Spain for Barcelona scoring a hat-trick against Real Madrid and smashing 42 goals in 103 La Liga games, in total scoring 53 goals in 138 games for them (Tottenham 80 in 138 games). He keeps his eye on Spanish football as a result.

"Spurs sign Fazio from Sevilla. Good, solid, large defender. Designs a mean golf course too."

Everyone seems to be very positive about him, as you would expect from an UEFA Europa League winner. He kept Gareth Bale quiet for 85 minutes in the recent Super Cup tie with the Champions League winners so he must be pretty decent.

Adebayor, Chadli, Fazio, we could be quite decent from set pieces, perhaps our goal ratio from them will increase now.
